A Sustainable Super Bowl LV

Did you know the National Football League (NFL) has an environmental program? Known as NFL Green, this program works to ensure that major NFL events like the Super Bowl leave a “green” impact in the host community.

This is the second year in a row that the Super Bowl will be hosted in Florida. Last year, it took place in Miami and NFL Green partnered with FORCE BLUE along with other conservation agencies and organizations. Their focus was a year-long coral restoration project called 100 Yards of Hope, which honored our veterans and NFL’s 100th season.

This year marks the 55th Super Bowl which will be held in Tampa on Sunday February 7, 2021. Florida affiliates Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful (KTBB) and Keep Pinellas Beautiful (KPB) have been working alongside NFL Green and the Tampa Bay Super Bowl LV Host Committee to help make a difference while cheering on the teams! These collaborative efforts have resulted in multiple beautification events and projects in the Tampa area leading up to Super Bowl LV.

Projects including cleanup events, mangrove planting, and the removal of invasive plants took place in December 2020 at Picnic Island and Mosaic Park. KTBB also participated in NFL Green’s Super Kids-Super Sharing which resulted in the collection of over 4,500 items including books and school supplies that were donated to children in the community. In January, KPB gathered with T.R.E.E. Inc Tampa Bay, NFL Green, and Tampa Bay Super Bowl LV to plant 71 native Florida trees including the Saw Palmetto and Florida Elm in Maximo Park.

Shout out to these Florida affiliates, NFL Green and the Super Bowl LV Host Committee for their cooperative dedication to a clean, green and beautiful Florida before, during and after the big game!
